People have been at Kezar Gardens 24/7 since the night of Tuesday, December 18th to prevent the eviction of the Haight Ashbury Neighborhood Council Recycling Center, Community Gardens, and Native Plant Nursery. Simultaneously, we have been building up an ecology center and welcome more books and literature, tools to be shared by the neighborhood, seeds to be given freely in the seed library, plant starts, and other items you would hope to find at an urban ecology center.
The folks that are both protecting and creating this space will greatly benefit from tents, tarps, blankets, a space heater, vegetable oil, and small propane cans for a stove or hot plates. IF you have any spare camping equipment please bring it by. Chairs will be very useful for having meeting, workshops, and classes. The camp has been very quiet and clean and has received generous welcomes from the neighbors here in the Haight Ashbury, where we've celebrated Christmas Eve, screened a film on the struggle for an urban garden in LA, and will continue to host celebratory gatherings with music, food, art, and community.
Join us at 780 Frederick Street or come say hello to borrow a tool, get some free seed, or share a book. Find Papa Ron, your DIY coach who will guide you through the ecology center and help with accessing tools and building your sustainable demonstration system or project.
Find updates at HumanBeIn.org and get ready for a large gathering starting on January 1st, during which we will tell the Sheriff the city is not welcome to usurp this community space.
Sincerely,
Folks at the Golden Gate Ecology Center

P.S.
While we are starting to build an ecology center in this space, our true aim is to facilitate a community envisioning process by which the neighbors, gardeners, recyclers, native plant enthusiasts, and others interested in this space can design its future use. We will soon have a brainstorming session to begin to generate as many ideas as possible for what we can build here together. We will be sure to flyer door to door throughout the Haight Ashbury neighborhood, but you can get updates on gatherings, events, work days, and envisioning sessions through the following:
